STDFAn Overview of the Project:
Desalination is one of the most promising new freshwater supply methods in the context of rapidly growing global water demand. However, the existing commercial desalination techniques suffer from disadvantages, most notably energy consumption and high capital costs. This explains why today's desalination represents only a small portion of the world's drinking water supply even though the oceans and seas contain about 97% of the world's water.
The project's objective is:
We propose Capacitive de-ionization (CDI) using carbon surface electrodes and pipe metal oxide shape to achieve desalination energy efficiently. The CDI system can water desalination with high efficiency, and currently, there is a limited understanding of the basic principles governing efficiency and characteristics that are key to improving and implementing this technology. In the proposed work, we will use CNT tubular carbon and metal oxide electrodes with its controlled surface functions to get a basic idea in electrode/electrolyte interfaces, to achieve optimal ion capture.
