Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of Suez University, announced that a team of students from the Faculty of Computers and Information won joint first place, alongside Al-Arish University, in the Agriculture Track of the Damietta University Artificial Intelligence Hackathon 2026. The event was organized by the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence at Damietta University and brought together 37 teams representing universities from across Egypt.
This remarkable achievement came after intense competition among the participating teams. The Suez University team impressed the judges with its innovative project, "Raa'i", an intelligent system that utilizes artificial intelligence and computer vision technologies to monitor livestock health and detect diseases at an early stage without requiring any sensors or wearable devices to be attached to the animals. The project aims to enhance food security, reduce economic losses, and minimize environmental emissions, in line with the goals of sustainable agricultural development.
The winning team consisted of the following first-year students from the Faculty of Computers and Information:
Al-Farouq Ibrahim Farouq Bashir
Ziad Abdelkader Abdelhamid Mohamed
Ahmed Emad Mohamed Ahmed
Mahmoud Rageh Mohamed Ibrahim
On this occasion, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal expressed his great pride in the students' achievement, emphasizing that securing first place in one of Egypt's most prominent university-level artificial intelligence competitions reflects the outstanding academic standards attained by Suez University students. He noted that this success is a testament to the university's strategy of promoting innovation, scientific research, and entrepreneurship.
He added that the winning project demonstrates the effective application of artificial intelligence to one of the country's most vital sectors—agriculture—in alignment with Egypt's vision for sustainable development and enhanced food security. He also reaffirmed the university's commitment to providing continuous support and encouragement for talented and innovative students to compete successfully at both national and international levels.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Hussein Aziz, Dean of the Faculty of Computers and Information, stated that this achievement reflects the high quality of education provided by the faculty and the ability of its students to develop intelligent solutions to real-world challenges using cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies.
He explained that the "Raa'i" project offers an innovative solution based on Edge AI and computer vision technologies to analyze livestock behavior and issue early warnings whenever abnormal changes are detected. The system also generates intelligent reports in Arabic to assist farmers and veterinarians in making timely decisions, thereby enhancing the project's practical value as well as its social and economic impact.
The Dean also extended his sincere appreciation to the President of Suez University for his continuous support of students and unwavering encouragement of innovation. He further commended the academic guidance and supervision of Dr. Mohamed Ali, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, whose mentorship and close follow-up played a significant role in leading the team to this distinguished achievement.
