Faculty of Science

Dean of the Faculty

Prof. Dr. Sharif Mohamed Famy

The Faculty of Science is one of the most promising faculties at Suez University because of its fundamental role in the numbers of scientists and also looked at the clear direction of the political leadership in Egypt to rely on science and scientists in Egypt to solve many problems and exploit the enormous scientific potential in achieving this goal.

About Faculty

The faculty was established by Republican Decree No. 324 of 2007. The faculty was a subsidiary of Suez Canal University prior to the separation of Suez University as an autonomous university in 2012 and began its study in the academic year 2008/2009 at the Faculty of Education building and was transferred to its new building. As well, the faculty has three buildings, such as the Administrative Building, the Educational Building, and the Terraces Building.

The faculty comprises three sectors: Education and Students Affairs Sector, Postgraduate and Research Sector, Community Service and Environment Development Sector and consists of six scientific departments (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Zoology, Plant and Microbiology, and Geology) working to achieve the vision and mission of the faculty and its strategic objectives.

  • Departments and Programs of the faculty:

First: Mathematics Department

It provides the following scientific programs:

1) Math Program:

2) Mathematics and Statistics Program: A dual program in which students study two specializations: mathematics and statistics

Fields of work: statistical and follow-up centers, research laboratories, meteorological bodies, mobilization and statistics centers, researcher, lecturer, data analyst, banks, database administrator.

Second: Physics Section

It provides the following scientific programs:

1) Physics Program:

2) Engineering Physics Program:

3) Applied Physics Program:

Fields of work: Nuclear Power Authority, electrical and electronics appliances factories, iron, steel and alloy factories, glass factories, lecturer, scientific and technical research centers.

Third: Chemistry Section

It provides the following scientific programs:

1) Chemistry program

Fields of work: pharmaceutical companies, fertilizers, oil and fats factories, laboratories and medical analysis companies, industrial detergent factories, battery industry, alloy, iron and steel, chemicals, dyes and plastic companies, water stations, environmental bodies and food and beverage companies.

2) Biochemical Program:

Fields of work: laboratories and medical analysis companies, pharmaceutical factories, oncology institutes, yeast factories and others.

Fourth: Plant and Microbiology Section

It provides the following scientific programs:

1) Plant program

2) Microbiology Program

Fields of work: laboratories and medical analysis companies, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, microbiology laboratories, water purification stations, food and dairy companies, agricultural development laboratories, fertilizer companies and agricultural research laboratories.

Fifth: Department of Zoology

It provides the following scientific programs:

1) Animal Program:

Fields of work: scientific research centers, blood banks, medical analysis laboratories, medical centers for embryology and others.

2) Animal and Chemistry Program: A dual program in which the student studies two study disciplines: Zoology and Chemistry.

Fields of work: Both areas of work include the chemistry and zoology program.

Sixth: Geology Section

It provides the following scientific programs:

1) Geology Program

2) Geophysics Program

Fields of work: Petroleum and Water Companies, Environmental Affairs Agency, Archaeology Sector, Mines, National Remote Sensing Authority, Geological Observatories, Mining, Quarry, and Exploration Companies.

3) Geology and Chemistry Program: A dual program in which the student studies two specializations: geology and chemistry.

Fields of work: Both areas of work include the chemistry and geology program.

Non-traditional programs (with expenses)

The SU Faculty of Science IS distinguished by the existence of non-traditional programs that fit the requirements of the labor market.

They are as follows:

First: Petrochemical Program

The program provides an overview of the petrochemical industry, petrochemical composition and important processes in the petrochemical and polymer industry in addition to basic chemistry science.

Fields of Work: Petrochemical Oil Companies, Gas Companies as well as Fields of Work of Chemistry Program.

Second: Petroleum and Natural Gas Geology Program

The program aims to prepare a specialist with all the skills related to the fields of petroleum geology, natural gas, and mineral ores. The teaching dose now given to students of the general specialization in geology does not adequately qualify them for creativity in exploring petroleum and mineral ores.

Third: Petroleum and mineral ore exploration program

The mineral resources of any country and the way they are extracted are the main pillars of its progress and an important criterion for its strength and status. This program is the backbone of extracting natural mineral resources from the subsoil and knowing how to fully exploit those sources.

Fourth: Mathematics and Computer Science Program

Students gain the skills and methods required to develop knowledge in various branches of mathematics and computer science and how to understand and apply those concepts to solve practical and technological issues and problems. To provide outstanding teaching in mathematics and computer science commensurate with international academic standards and society's requirements.

Postgraduate programs

Internal Regulations of the SU Faculty of Science (postgraduate level), issued by Republican Decree No. 4136 of 10/9/2018, comprising 95 postgraduate programs which are divided into three stages (diplomas, master's degree, doctorate).

In addition to the professional master's program in occupational safety, health and the environment (a non-traditional program), whose regulations were attached to the rules of procedure of the Faculty of Science - University of Suez (postgraduate stage) by ministerial decision No. 1547 of 22/5/2020. The program brings together three fields: chemistry - ecology - geology and their relationship to hazards and workers' health and safety at work sites in various industries.

Center for Scientific Consultation, Training, and Environmental Monitoring

The Centre was established by decision of the Supreme Council of Universities on 23/6/2015 as a special unit. The Center aims to assist the University in the values by providing a distinguished service to the society by providing scientific consultations, organizing advanced training and study courses and raising the efficiency of workers in governmental and private bodies that fall within the specialization of the faculty, as well as conducting research and studies to meet the needs of various bodies, companies and societies and others in the fields of industry, environment, technology and other fields. The Center also aims to assess the environmental impact of new and existing projects and other in addition to holding seminars and lectures for different scientific culture to raise the efficiency, qualification and awareness of students, university workers, graduates, and members of civil society.

Physical Potential of the faculty:

Terraces and halls: The faculty has 12 terraces and halls with a total area of 1148 m2.

Student and Research Laboratories: The faculty has 25 student laboratories spread across scientific departments as well as a special herbarium at the plant department. There are 16 research laboratories in different departments equipped at the highest level for scientific research by faculty members as well as a geological museum of the geology department.

Central Laboratories Complex Building: The University is opening the Central Laboratories Complex Building as part of the completion of the faculty's infrastructure and presentation of its study and scientific mission. The building is located on an area of 3607 square meters and consists of four floors designed to be compatible with the latest lab designs and will be equipped with state-of-the-art capabilities and devices to be one of the most important ingredients for student qualification in the bachelor stage of practical training. The complex's potential will also be utilized in research for graduate students and various research projects.
