Higher Education:
Launch of an awareness campaign involving university and faculty students to promote energy conservation.
The campaign offers awareness activities, contests, and digital content to foster a culture of energy conservation within and beyond the university community.
The campaign aims to promote energy efficiency and a culture of sustainability with the participation of university students.
Ongoing monitoring of the campaign’s implementation and assessment of its impact within universities and institutes.
Under the auspices of Dr. Abdulaziz Qanswa, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the “Save It… Light It” campaign launches this week at universities and institutes to promote energy conservation and enhance energy efficiency, as part of the state’s efforts to address the current global energy crisis.
This campaign complements the directives of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research to activate the role of universities and institutes in energy conservation to address the global energy crisis, through several implementation measures including rationalizing fuel use in university transportation, using energy-efficient light bulbs, and utilizing solar energy units while increasing their number in the coming period, while ensuring disciplined and rational measures are taken regarding the use of lighting in lecture halls and classrooms.
The minister emphasized that rationalizing energy consumption is a shared national responsibility, stressing the need to continuously monitor the campaign’s implementation and measure its impact within universities and institutes to ensure the achievement of its objectives and the sustainability of its results.
Dr. Adel Abdel Ghaffar, media advisor and official spokesperson for the ministry, explained that the awareness campaign at universities and institutes aims to activate the role of university students in promoting energy conservation at universities and in homes, as raising students’ awareness contributes to changing their families’ energy consumption patterns through their positive influence in conveying awareness messages to their families, social circles, gathering places, and various activities, as well as extending the impact of the awareness campaign to different segments of Egyptian public opinion.
The spokesperson noted that the campaign relies on the role of university students as key partners in energy conservation efforts by establishing energy-efficient practices on campus and encouraging them to share these behaviors with their families, as well as contributing to spreading a culture of energy efficiency among various segments of society.
The spokesperson added that the campaign includes a comprehensive set of awareness-raising and interactive activities on university campuses, such as organizing educational seminars and launching student competitions that encourage innovation in energy efficiency, as well as implementing practical measures to reduce consumption on campus.
He added that the General Administration of the Media Office and the official spokesperson have prepared a series of awareness-raising videos and visual materials (infographics) in preparation for the launch of an extensive digital outreach campaign across the Ministry’s official social media platforms, in full cooperation and coordination with university media departments to publish the content on the official pages of faculties and universities, ensuring that the awareness messages reach the widest possible segment of students.
It is worth mentioning that the Institute for Leadership Development, headed by Dr. Karim Hammam, the Minister’s Advisor for Student Activities, will organize several student events and activities in coordination with universities and institutes to support student participation in the campaign, enhance their awareness of the importance of rationalizing energy consumption, and instill positive behaviors associated with the optimal use of resources.
