This morning, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of Suez University, received H.E. Minister Major General Dr. Tarek Hamed El-Shazly, Governor of Suez, who attended the University Council meeting No. (153). Prof. Dr. Heniegal opened the meeting by welcoming the Governor and congratulating those present on the advent of the New Gregorian Year, wishing it to be a year filled with success and achievements for the university and the local community.
During the meeting, Prof. Dr. Heniegal reviewed the university’s most notable activities over the past month, which included organizing a number of meetings and events, such as celebrations honoring persons with disabilities and World Children’s Day, in addition to scientific and cultural activities that reflect the university’s societal role.
For his part, the Governor congratulated attendees on the New Year and extended his greetings to Coptic brothers and sisters on the occasion of their feasts. He also praised the efforts of faculty members and students who achieved distinguished positions in various competitions and events. The Governor emphasized the importance of not being swayed by rumors or by those who promote misleading media content, calling for caution when addressing any issues that may cause confusion or unrest within society.
The Governor also put forward several proposals, including the preparation of a cooperation protocol with the university to operate the university’s mechanical fleet after its rehabilitation, particularly in the field of vehicle maintenance—especially taxis within the governorate—as well as activating the university’s sports academies to serve the youth of Suez and encourage them to engage in sports. He stressed the necessity of coordination and integration among various disciplines, entities, and colleges to achieve positive outcomes that serve the community.
Within the context of the meeting, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of the University, presented a proposal to establish a university-owned company at Suez University, following the model of similar companies at other universities. He reviewed some proposed names for the company as well as its visual identity.
He explained that the company aims to develop investment, support local industry, promote human development, and achieve financial sustainability, in line with Egypt Vision 2030 and the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research. The company’s fields of operation would include engineering consultancy, digital transformation, and the humanities.
H.E. the Governor expressed his admiration for the idea, describing it as an innovative, “out-of-the-box” approach to overcoming bureaucratic complexities. He emphasized the need to establish a clear organizational structure for managing the company, precisely defining the roles and responsibilities of each individual. He also proposed that the company be named: “Suez Integrated University Services Company.”
The Suez University Council then resumed its work by discussing issues related to various sectors. The council addressed matters concerning student affairs and the support of activities and educational services, as well as issues related to postgraduate studies and scientific research. It also reviewed the plans of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector and other items on the agenda, reflecting the university’s commitment to continuing its academic and societal role in serving the people of Suez.
