This morning, the Suez Governorate’s celebration of its National Day was held at the Suez University Theater under the patronage of Major General Dr. Tarek Hamed El-Shazly, Governor of Suez, and in the presence of Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of Suez University; Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ramadan, Deputy Governor; Vice Presidents of the University, Deans of Faculties, a number of public and executive leaders of the Governorate, faculty members, staff, and students.
The ceremony opened with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a welcoming speech by the University President, who greeted the attendees on this immortal national day that commemorates the glorious October victories, through which Egypt restored its dignity, asserted its will, and wrote—through the blood of its sons—a timeless epic of heroism that remains a source of pride and inspiration for generations.
Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of the University, emphasized that the valiant land of Suez has always been a living witness to the resilience of the Egyptian will.
He extended a salute of respect and appreciation to His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, who leads the nation toward glory and progress with the unyielding will of the people, inspired by the spirit of October—embodying sacrifice, belonging, and determination to achieve goals.
He reaffirmed the university’s and the people’s pledge of loyalty to the President’s path of construction and development, moving forward with faith that knowledge and education are the foundations of the nation’s renaissance, and that the spirit of October will always be a source of motivation in facing challenges and realizing aspirations.
The President also saluted Egypt’s Armed Forces, the symbol of sacrifice and giving, extending special appreciation to General Abdelmajid Saqr, Minister of Defense and Military Production, and to all commanders, officers, and soldiers who embodied the highest meanings of heroism in the October War and continue to write, with their pure blood, eternal pages in the national record of honor.
He paid tribute to the martyrs of duty who gave their lives in defense of Egypt’s land, honor, and independence.
Dr. Heniegal further reflected on the significance of October as a month of heroism and achievement, noting that it has always been a time when the nation defends its causes and upholds justice—especially regarding the Palestinian right to land and self-determination, despite decades of aggression and displacement attempts.
He praised Egypt’s ongoing efforts to defend Arab lands and mediate peace, highlighting Egypt’s success in achieving a political and humanitarian breakthrough in the Gaza crisis through high-level diplomacy culminating in the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Conference, which received global praise.
He emphasized the confidence of the Egyptian people—and of Suez University in particular—in the state’s leadership and institutions, which have proven their ability to accomplish what others could not. Egypt, he said, will always remain the bearer of truth, the voice of wisdom, and the pillar of stability in its Arab and regional surroundings.
The University President also expressed appreciation to Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for his keen support of awareness-building activities that shape young minds and strengthen national belonging, reaffirming the role of universities as centers of intellectual and cultural enlightenment.
He commended the fruitful cooperation between Suez University and the Governorate of Suez, calling it a model of institutional integration in serving the community and shaping public awareness.
In conclusion, the University President addressed the students, reminding them that the October victories are not merely a historical occasion, but a comprehensive lesson in patriotism, will, sacrifice, and faith. He urged them, as the generation of the future, to embrace these values through diligence, discipline, and perseverance, to become a true continuation of the generation that achieved glory.
“Egypt counts on you,” he said, “—on your awareness, morals, and knowledge—to build a strong, cohesive, and prosperous homeland.”
He concluded by urging everyone to uphold good morals, take knowledge as their weapon, and national belonging as their shield.
Lecture by the Governor of Suez: “October—A Nation’s Memory and a People’s Responsibility”
Major General Dr. Tarek Hamed El-Shazly, Governor of Suez, delivered a lecture titled “October—A Nation’s Memory and a People’s Responsibility.” He traced the history of the Arab-Israeli conflict from before World War I and the issuance of the Balfour Declaration—“a promise from those who do not own to those who do not deserve.”
He reviewed the 1956 Suez Crisis, the nationalization of the Canal, the Tripartite Aggression, and the 1967 setback, which deprived Egyptian soldiers of a fair chance to fight. He described it as a harsh lesson underscoring the importance of training, preparation, and leadership.
He spoke about the War of Attrition and its morale-boosting effects through operations like Ras El-Esh, the sinking of the destroyer Eilat, and the Eilat port explosions, stressing the lessons of hard work, planning, and knowing one’s enemy.
He then detailed the October 1973 War, explaining that the Crossing Plan left nothing to chance—every detail was meticulously planned, leading to a victory that remains a defining moment in Egyptian military history.
He recalled the bravery of the people of Suez, who fought alongside the army during the war, sacrificing everything to defend the nation.
The Governor concluded by reviewing Egypt’s recent development projects across multiple sectors:
In healthcare, the inauguration of Egypt’s first 5G-enabled smart hospital under the universal health insurance system;
In education, solutions to overcrowding and teacher shortages through recruitment and redistribution efforts;
In water services, the near completion of new desalination plants;
In urban planning, ongoing housing projects to meet citizens’ needs.
He concluded by urging citizens not to believe rumors and to remain confident in Egypt’s promising future.
Documentary Film: “Suez University Tells Its Story”
The celebration began with a documentary film produced by Suez University’s Media Center titled “Suez University Tells Its Story,” showcasing the capabilities and achievements of both the public and national universities in various fields.
Lecture by Journalist Osama El-Deleel
Prominent journalist Osama El-Deleel discussed the recent Sharm El-Sheikh Agreement to end the Gaza conflict, describing peace as “a rare and precious commodity.” He emphasized that true peace can only be imposed through strength—a principle Egypt upheld following the October War.
He noted that Egypt’s recent diplomatic success reaffirmed the world’s recognition of the Palestinian state and opposed displacement schemes such as the so-called “Gaza Option.” He credited Egypt’s firm leadership and vigilant armed forces for defending the nation’s sovereignty and regional stability.
Addressing the students, El-Deleel urged them to seek knowledge, quoting the Qur’anic verse: “And say, ‘My Lord, increase me in knowledge.’” He discussed regional and global challenges surrounding Egypt—from the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the south to the Mediterranean in the north, as well as conflicts in Sudan and Libya—and their implications for national security.
He concluded by stressing unity and solidarity among all Egyptians behind their great army and wise leadership to preserve the nation.
