As part of strengthening international relations and promoting academic and research cooperation between Egyptian and European educational institutions, Professor Ashraf Heneigel, President of Suez University, paid an official visit to TU Wien (Vienna University of Technology) in the Austrian capital, Vienna. The visit came in response to a kind invitation from Professor Jens Schneider, President of TU Wien, who personally welcomed the delegation, along with Mr. Markus Schweider, Director of International Relations at the university. The delegation from Suez University included Professor Sherif Fahmy, Acting Vice President for Postgraduate Studies and Research; Dr. Sherif Abu El-Magd, Director of Afro-Austrian Projects; and Dr. Ali Magid, Representative of the Office of International Cooperation and Afro-Austrian Projects.
During the meeting, the attendees discussed ways to develop cooperation between the two universities in various scientific and research fields, particularly in engineering, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and applied sciences. The discussion focused on expanding the scope of scientific research to include sustainable solutions that address the effects of climate change and enhance adaptation to the environmental transformations facing the world.
As part of strengthening cooperation, both parties worked on finalizing a draft memorandum of understanding covering several areas of mutual interest. The memorandum includes student exchange programs between the two universities to enhance academic and cultural experiences, as well as faculty exchange programs aimed at deepening research collaboration and sharing scientific expertise in relevant disciplines. Additionally, the memorandum seeks to promote joint research projects focused on developing innovative solutions in structural engineering, artificial intelligence, green energy, and natural resource management.
The parties agreed to include cooperation in climate change-related research within the partnership activities, including the development of technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promoting the use of renewable energy, and establishing strategies to adapt to rapid environmental changes. This reflects the importance of the issue on both agendas. The memorandum also includes organizing joint workshops and conferences aimed at supporting knowledge exchange and best practices in scientific research and technological development.
Following the meeting, the President of Suez University conducted a tour of TU Wien, visiting several engineering laboratories and research centers, and reviewed student graduation projects in structural engineering and smart cities. He expressed his admiration for the university’s distinguished academic level and the modern technological innovations presented by the students.
The visit concluded with an affirmation of the importance of continued communication between the two universities to develop an implementation plan for future research projects and scientific exchange, thereby enhancing academic integration and supporting the international standing of Suez University in the field of scientific cooperation.
