President of Suez University Attends the Opening Session of the "Tamouh" Hackathon
Tue. 20 May, 2025

Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of Suez University, attended the opening session of the "Tamouh" Hackathon at Suez University, held under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and supervised by Prof. Dr. Gina El-Feki, Acting President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.
The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Essam Ahmed, Dean of the Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering and Director of the University’s Technology Incubator, Eng. Tarek Salah El-Din, CEO of IdeaSpace, along with university faculty members.
In his speech, the University President welcomed the attendees and highlighted that launching the "Tamouh" Hackathon represents a significant step toward fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship at the university and, by extension, in Egypt. The event aligns with Egypt’s national vision, led by His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to support innovation and nurture talented and creative individuals as a vital contribution to the realization of Egypt’s Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
He clarified that this initiative marks the first phase of the “Tamouh” Technology Incubator Program, implemented by the university to embody the vision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, led by Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour. The Ministry is committed to supporting innovation and entrepreneurship among the promising youth by providing an enabling environment through incubators, creative competitions, and the Innovators and Talents Support Fund—aimed at transforming promising ideas into impactful community projects.
The President emphasized that the university’s mission goes beyond delivering theoretical knowledge; it earnestly seeks to create a comprehensive ecosystem that supports innovative thinking and facilitates the transformation of scientific research and pioneering ideas into viable, productive projects.
This direction is reflected through university incubators and through effective partnerships with state institutions and the private sector. The Suez Canal and Red Sea regions are among Egypt’s most economically promising zones, yet they face development challenges that require innovative solutions.
Heniegal affirmed the university’s belief that every serious idea deserves a real opportunity. Accordingly, the best teams will be selected for the incubation phase, during which they will receive financial and technical support of up to EGP 300,000 per idea as part of a comprehensive incubation program to develop and transform ideas into successful startups.
“We at Suez University are proud of our youth and believe they are our partners in development. They will lead the transformation toward a knowledge-based economy and a more sustainable future,” Heniegal stated. “I encourage all participants to make the most of this unique experience. Perhaps today’s simple idea may soon become a success story the university and all of Egypt can be proud of.”
During the session, key achievements of the preparatory phase were reviewed. Registration included 190 teams from across various governorates, of which 43 advanced to the preliminary finals. Suez Governorate led in terms of participant numbers. Submitted projects spanned various fields including transportation and logistics, aquaculture, the green economy, and artificial intelligence applications—all aligning with the program’s goals and its vision to support innovation and entrepreneurship in the Suez Canal and Red Sea regions, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030.
Qualified teams presented their innovative ideas and engaged in rich, inspiring discussions with Prof. Dr. Heniegal and attendees, marking a strong start to the hackathon.
The event spans three days and includes numerous training sessions led by a distinguished group of experienced entrepreneurship trainers. These sessions provide technical support to help participants refine their ideas and turn them into competitive startups that can make a tangible impact on the region.
It is worth noting that the program will offer financial support and services with a total value of up to EGP 2 million for the top 10 innovative ideas. Thus, the program aims to achieve two main objectives: nurturing the best ideas and transforming them into real projects, and contributing to solving the region’s pressing developmental challenges.
