Mon. 19 May, 2025

This morning, Prof. Ashraf Heneigal, President of Suez University, inaugurated the Seventh Student Conference of the Faculty of Science, under his patronage. The event was attended by Prof. Sherif Fahmy, Acting Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies and Research, and Prof. Walid Abdelkarim, Dean of the Faculty and Conference Chair. Also in attendance were:
Chemist Salah El-Din Riyad, Assistant Chairman of the Egyptian Petrochemicals Holding Company (ECHEM), and former Vice President of Misr Fertilizers Production Company (MOPCO),
Engineer Mohamed Ibrahim, Chairman and Managing Director of Sidi Kerir Petrochemicals Company (SIDPEC),
Engineer Hassan Abdel Alim, Chairman and Managing Director of Helwan Fertilizers Company,
Chemist Hisham Riyad, Chairman of the Egyptian Ethylene and Derivatives Company (ETHYDCO).
In his opening address, the President of Suez University expressed his pride in the Faculty of Science, considering it the nucleus of any university and a beacon for all scientific and technological disciplines. He noted that students’ reluctance to specialize in subjects such as mathematics or physics stems largely from the way these essential sciences are taught in schools. He emphasized that these disciplines are the foundation of technological progress across various scientific fields, including engineering, medicine, and agriculture.
He further highlighted the persistent gap between academic science and the industrial sector. However, he affirmed that the scientists and researchers at Suez University hold esteemed positions in the academic community due to their outstanding research, published in leading international journals. He stressed that scientific research must translate into practical applications that serve society and the environment.
Prof. Heneigal noted that bridging the gap between industry and academic study requires practical steps, one of which is the role played by the Career Development Center through its outreach to various institutions.
The university president emphasized that inviting this distinguished group of leaders from major industrial institutions reflects the university’s belief that aligning academic study with market needs is now indispensable. Such collaboration ensures the preparation of qualified graduates who possess the skills and knowledge needed by various sectors. Continuous communication between universities and industry provides a deeper understanding of the evolving labor market and helps modernize academic curricula accordingly. Through strategic partnerships with economic and industrial institutions, real training opportunities can be offered to students, granting them hands-on experience and allowing them to effectively integrate into their fields after graduation.
Prof. Heneigal also launched a competition among student conferences across faculties to select the best student conference. He confirmed his eagerness to receive the conference's recommendations for implementation on the ground.
He also announced that the new university hospital will open in the coming days, along with the inauguration of the new National University comprising 10 faculties offering more than 30 academic programs aimed at empowering students to compete effectively in the labor market. Additionally, a new branch of Suez University will open in Abu Redis, South Sinai Governorate, hosting 17 faculties and a university hospital. Moreover, plans are underway for a technological university in New Suez City.
The university president stressed the importance of collective participation—faculty members, assistants, and students alike—in working hard to elevate the name of Suez University on various platforms. He noted that these conferences contribute positively to improving the university’s ranking among other institutions.
In conclusion, Prof. Heneigal emphasized that hard work and dedication are the paths to success, and loyalty to the homeland is the foundation of development. He added that the university is not merely a place for learning, but a gateway to opportunity, urging everyone to seize every moment to build a promising future. “Nations are built by the hands of their people—be part of this construction.”
At the start of the conference, Prof. Walid Abdelkarim, Dean of the Faculty, expressed his delight and that of the entire science faculty for reaching this new edition of the student conference. He extended his gratitude to the participating companies and industrial institutions, as well as the guest speakers and experts, the Egyptian Mathematical Society, the Syndicate of Scientific Professions, the “Students for Egypt” organization, and the University Career Development Center for their valuable contributions.
The Dean noted that this seventh edition represents a qualitative leap—not only in the number of submitted research papers (nearly 150)—but also in the growing societal interest, the rising level of competition, and the presence of distinguished scientific elites at Suez University. This reflects the necessity to continue developing this academic platform in alignment with the aspirations of students and the academic community.
He also welcomed the participation of various Egyptian universities and institutes, including Galala University, October University, Al-Azhar University, and the Canal Higher Institute of Engineering and Technology. The conference also featured student research from other faculties of Suez University, such as the Faculties of Computers and Information, Arts, Engineering, and Technology and Education.
Prof. Sahar El-Saqqa, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Research and the Conference Coordinator, expressed her pride in this year's success, praising the enthusiastic student participation and their serious engagement in the scientific workshops. She confirmed that this success was the result of collective efforts within the faculty.
The conference agenda was rich with workshops and interactive lectures delivered by a distinguished group of experts and specialists, enhancing student awareness of labor market issues and research skills. Topics spanned scientific, professional, and ethical dimensions. Notably, Engineer Tamer Asaad, CEO of Photon Computing and consultant in high-performance computing and video broadcasting, participated. Also contributing was Dr. Mohamed Ali El-Masry, Assistant Chairman of SIDPEC for Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Protection.
Prof. Rasha Mostafa Kamel, Head of the Chemistry Department and Conference Coordinator, stated that this day—eagerly anticipated by students every year—demonstrates their passion and desire to take advantage of every opportunity to enhance their skills. She added that the event has become a distinguished annual milestone for the faculty’s students and alumni, offering an open space for learning, professional exposure, and knowledge exchange.
She explained that the conference featured 146 research posters presented by approximately 500 students, showcasing a variety of scientific projects. These posters were evaluated by a panel of esteemed faculty members and academic judges.
