This morning, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of Suez University, inaugurated the first student conference of the Faculty of Engineering. The event is held under his patronage and supervised by Prof. Dr. Sameh Yehia, Dean of the Faculty, in the presence of the University Vice Presidents, faculty deans, academic staff members, Consulting Engineer Ayman Rizk, Representative of the Engineers Syndicate in Suez, Engineer Hilal Salah El-Din Hilal, Head of Sales at Suez Steel Company, Engineer Hesham Sami, Founder and Chairman of Marhab Engineering Solutions and General Contracting, students of the faculty, and participants from other universities.
The opening ceremony began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an, followed by a speech from Prof. Dr. Sameh Yehia, Dean of the Faculty, who warmly welcomed the University President and esteemed attendees. Yehia emphasized the importance of such conferences as they provide an excellent platform to showcase the creativity and projects of outstanding students, reflecting the spirit of initiative and innovation cherished by the faculty. He noted that the event crowns the sincere efforts of students, supported and guided by faculty members, to offer a genuine platform for presenting ideas, innovations, and discussing academic and student-related issues objectively.
In his address, the University President expressed his joy at being present at what he referred to as his "first home," celebrating the first student conference of the Faculty of Engineering, describing it as a pioneering step toward fostering creativity and scientific research among students. He noted that the conference aligns with a consistent vision of creating an inspiring academic environment that allows students to express their ideas, develop their skills, and benefit from various scientific experiences.
Dr. Heniegal stressed that His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has repeatedly affirmed that education should not be confined to traditional curricula but must expand to embrace new horizons and keep pace with the rapidly evolving labor market.
In this context, he referred to the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, launched by His Excellency Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which includes seven main pillars, among them entrepreneurship and innovation. This pillar is founded on the belief that innovation must be supported by a structured environment, legislation, and resources—both human and material—that encourage and reward success.
The University President affirmed the commitment of university leadership to fostering a dynamic educational environment that combines theoretical knowledge with practical application and encourages critical and creative thinking among students.
From this foundation emerges the importance of strengthening collaboration between the university and leading industrial and technological institutions to provide practical training and equip students with the skills needed to compete effectively and excellently in the global labor market.
He also extended his appreciation to all partners—officials, trade unionists, companies, and business owners—for offering real opportunities for students to acquire training, refine their skills, and prepare for the job market.
Dr. Heniegal emphasized the university’s deep belief that its students are the cornerstone for building a brighter future, endowed with the thought, creativity, and capacity to develop innovative solutions to many challenges facing society.
These young minds have always been the driving force of change, blending ambition, knowledge, and a desire to transcend traditional limits to reach new heights of development and innovation.
He concluded by affirming his full confidence in the students of the Faculty of Engineering, viewing them as a conscious generation entrusted with the responsibility of advancing the nation through enlightened thinking and boundless creativity.
Despite being a relatively new initiative, this first student conference stands as clear evidence of the capability of these future engineers to analyze problems, propose effective solutions, and transform ideas into tangible realities that serve the community and achieve sustainable development.
Following the speeches, the University President presented the conference shields to Consulting Engineer Ayman Rizk, Representative of the Engineers Syndicate in Suez, and Engineer Abdelaziz Atef, Chairman of the Affairs Committee in Suez, Engineer Hilal Salah El-Din Hilal and Engineer Hesham Sami. At the end of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Sameh Yehia presented the conference shield to the University President.
The conference proceedings continued with a series of important seminars. Dr. Salah Farhan began with a seminar on sustainability in the energy sector. Dr. Akram Youssef followed with a seminar on smart cities. Finally, Dr. Mohamed Ali Atia delivered a seminar on artificial intelligence and its applications in engineering.
The conference concluded with the distribution of awards for the best posters and projects in a highly competitive atmosphere, with everyone expressing their hope to participate again in the coming years, God willing.
