Prof. Dr. Ashraf Heniegal, President of Suez University, paid an official visit to Shanghai Ocean University in China to explore mechanisms for enhancing cooperation between the two universities in various academic and research fields. He was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Osama Kaddour, Dean of the Faculty of Fish Resources and Director of the International Cooperation Office at Suez University.
Prof. Dr. Heniegal was received by Mr. WANG Hongzhou, President of Shanghai Ocean University, Mr. JIANG Min, Vice President of the university, and a number of senior officials and administrators.
The discussions between the two parties began with a two-day review of all possible areas of collaboration, particularly in marine engineering, aquaculture, and fisheries engineering.
The President of Suez University stated that this visit aligns with the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, emphasizing the importance of engaging with different cultures and academic institutions to foster greater cooperation with foreign universities. He highlighted that such international openness would positively impact the quality of higher education and scientific research in Egypt. By enhancing academic and knowledge exchange between different cultures, this collaboration opens new horizons for deeper understanding and academic development, reflecting the President’s commitment to education and research as key drivers of Egypt’s progress.
Prof. Dr. Heniegal further explained that the National Strategy for Higher Education and Scientific Research, launched in 2023 by Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, includes integrated pillars such as international benchmarking, which aims to internationalize higher education institutions. This strategy facilitates student mobility across borders, allowing Egyptian students to benefit from scientific advancements in foreign universities.
The President of Suez University also highlighted that the cooperation with Shanghai Ocean University includes undergraduate student exchange programs, master's and doctoral scholarships, an increase in the number of Suez University scholars sent to Shanghai, as well as postdoctoral fellowships and joint research projects between the two universities.
For his part, the President of Shanghai Ocean University expressed his gratitude to the President of Suez University for the visit, commending the fruitful and serious collaboration between the International Cooperation Offices of both universities.
During the visit, the President of Suez University toured the Shanghai Ocean University exhibition, where university officials showcased their academic and research achievements. The visit concluded with an exchange of commemorative gifts between the two institutions.
