Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hnijal, the SU President, inaugurated the University's Center for the Care of Students with Disabilities this morning. It was attended by M. Quincy Dermody, the Director of the Public University Scholarship Program at Amideast Authority, Dr. Dina Helmy, the Deputy Director of the Public University Scholarship Program at Amideast Authority, SU Vice - Presidents, Deans faculties, teaching staff members, and students. Prof. Dr. Ihab Shehata, the Dean of the Faculty of Education and Director of the Centre, M. Nahla Hafni, the Coordinator of the Amideast Authority of Suez University, and Prof. Dr. Samah El-Saqa, the Deputy Director of the Centre, witnessed the opening ceremony.
After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attendees wandered to the Centre's headquarters, where they inspected the possibilities of providing services to university students with disabilities. The SU President and attendance then moved to the hall of the Faculty of Petroleum Engineering and Mining where the Director of the Center welcomed the attendance as an appreciation of the efforts of the SU President in strengthening the Center, as well as his appreciation for the presentation of the Amideast Authority for the establishment of this distinctive Center.
In her statement, M. Quincy Dermody affirmed her pleasure to be at Suez University in the opening of this center, which is one of the fruits of the cooperation over the years between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Amideast, and the US Agency for International Development. She wished success and progress to the Centre and its administrators in providing services to students with disabilities.
In his statement, the SU President expressed his pleasure in his presence on this day to witness the fruits of a noble project the establishment of the Centre for the Care of Students with Disabilities at Suez University. This project was signed by the University in 2022 with Amideast and aims to build an entity dedicated to providing structured services, based on scientific bases for our students with disabilities, in the form and essence that ensures the access of distinguished service to a group of our children that deserves all our attention.
Furthermore, the "SU President" noted that the concern for our students with disabilities stems from the fact that Egypt is one of the most important countries to be praised in social work in general, especially in the field of care and rehabilitation of people with disabilities because of its considerable experience and pioneering experiences in this regard.
Hnijal then stressed that since His Excellency President Abdelfattah El-Sisi assumed the leadership of Egypt, the growing interest in the disadvantaged has increased, providing all means of support and care to our students; To overcome the difficulties they face and to obtain their rights, through initiatives, legislation and directives on the one hand, and to take advantage of their active capacities and contributions in the national courses of action and integrate them into Egyptian society on the other, as the treasure of the nation, and under the expression of His Excellency Mr. President himself.
The “SU President” then reviewed the impacts of this special project, which has a wide resonance and a great impact on all the University's staff, enabling the dissemination of a culture of interaction and service to students with disabilities among their colleagues, teaching staff members, employees in the University on solid scientific grounds.
Therefore, his Excellency stressed that the University Administration had not wavered a moment from providing various means of assistance and support to the Centre It has always been keen to follow up on the implementation and provision of all engineering requirements. The university has also taken a package of measures to serve our disabled children. such as exempting them from university book expenses, giving them priority in university accommodation, continuing encouragement to participate in various student sports, artistic, and cultural activities, and believing in our student's abilities and skills.
At the end of his statement, the SU President thanked the efforts of the Amideast Authority, which had a great impact on today's achievement. He also thanked the Authority and its sponsors for the efforts made over the past years to provide serious training opportunities for the University's staff, as well as all support for the establishment of this distinguished center, at this level of sophistication.
Students with disabilities showcased a variety of technical performances, including playing music and translating a national song into sign language, to attendees.
