Seminar "Research Centers and Local Product Support" at the Faculty of Engineering

Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Al-Sayed Al-Sharkawi, the SU president, the SU Faculty of Engineering organized a seminar entitled "Research Centers and Local Product Support" in cooperation with the Nile Information Centre in Suez Governorate.

Moreover, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hnegil, the dean of the Faculty of Engineering, lectured at the seminar. This seminar was attended by Dr. Mohamed Aziz, the undersecretary of the faculty for education and student affairs, Dr. Doaa Al-Agha, the undersecretary of the faculty for community service and environment development affairs, Ms. Magda Ashmawi, the director of the Nile Information Centre, Dr. Arabi Ibrahim, staff, employees, and students of the faculty.

Then, the Dean of the Faculty spoke about the Supreme Council of Centers, Institutes, and Research Bodies. The Council was established in accordance with Republican Resolution No. 488 of 1991 to coordinate, link and promulgate joint regulations between centers and institutes, such as the Higher Council of Universities. He also referred to its research centers, the National Research Centre, the National Institute of Marine Science, the Theodor Bilharz Research Institute, the Research Institute of Ophthalmology, and the Petroleum Research Institute. In addition, Ashraf stressed that applied scientific research is the basis of the industry, where it is critical to link the research product to the industry, guide scientific research to serve the community, and meet the challenges facing economic growth in order to achieve the sustainable development goals of the state Egypt's 2030 vision.

Hnegil also noted the societal and service role of these private centers and institutes in the fields of industry, agriculture, health, and technology localization is critical and other priority areas for the service of sustainable development goals.

For his part, Dr. Mohammed Aziz talked about the journey to the development of Egyptian industry in the New Republic where the State is interested in the various industries sector as it plays a major role in driving growth rates towards rising and developing exports and providing opportunities for industrial investment where many cities and giant development projects were established. One of the most important projects is Al-Ruwaibke Leather City over 500 acres and the city of furniture in Damietta on an area approaching 331 acres, the Plastic Industries Complex, Sadat City, and the new city of Kom Oshim. As well, Aziz also stressed that the Egyptian government supports the industry in various ways because it plays a key role in developing the economy, providing jobs, driving exports, and increasing domestic output.

Dr. Doaa Agha then referred to the importance of the local product and its benefits, impact, and economic return. Local industry plays an important, effective, and significant role in the economy of all countries. The local industry also contributes to the development of many other sectors through the products it provides to these sectors such as agriculture, commerce, transport, education, and swimming.

At the conclusion of the symposium, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hnegil, the Dean of the SU Faculty of Engineering, oversaw the importance of the local industry. The local industry provides locally manufactured products at prices suitable for citizens and the local industry. It reduces imports from abroad, reduces pressures on the state's general budget, improves the balance of payments, and works on export potential.
