Tue. 21 Feb, 2023

Prof. Dr. Al-Sayed Al-Sharkawi, the SU president, welcomed Major General/ Mohamed Abdel Rahman, the head of the Red Sea Ports Authority, to discuss the feasibility of opening a Department of Architecture and Marine Engineering at the SU Faculty of Engineering. It was attended by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Hnegil, the dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and General Eng. Ahmed Safar, Vice President of the Red Sea Ports Authority. “Al-Sharkawi” presented the idea of establishing the Department of Architecture and Marine Engineering and its importance for the service of ports and the maritime transport industry.

For his part, Abd El-Rahem stated in front of the members of the Council of the SU Faculty of Engineering that such a department should be established at Suez University due to its unique location on the Red Sea and its presence at the southern entrance to the Suez Canal. Furthermore, the governorate includes several ports, including Red Sea ports, which include six ports in three governorates. (Suez - Red Sea - South Sinai) as well as the ports of the Economic Authority for the Development of the Suez Canal (Sokhna- Adabiya- and others). So, this requires the presence of a maritime engineering department to provide cadres of engineers specializing in maritime engineering to follow up and supervise the construction and repair of vessels frequently in ports.

Then, “Safar” stated that the most important knowledge that must be available in the study department and the specifications that the graduates of the department must have from the ability to plan and supervise the construction, maintenance, construction, and balancing works because the Department of Marine Engineering is not present only in a few Egyptian universities, including the Arab Academy of Science and Technology, which can benefit from its outstanding expertise in this field.
