Cultural and Visual Identity Development Competition of Suez Governorate

Suez University announces the launch of the "Visual Identity Project of Suez Governorate" competition. It is a challenge for innovators in the field of plastic arts. The project aims to establish a visual identity for all the governorates of Egypt on the global map.

Given the strategic importance of Suez’s geographical location as the Eastern Gate of Egypt and its history characterized by the momentum of the various national heroic events since the dawn of history, this competition is based on:

1. Innovation, creativity, uniqueness, and avoiding stereotypes.

2. Showing the influences of the culture of the place are reflected in the national and social personality.

3. To be derived from civilized history with a contemporary vision.

4. Considering the realization of the philosophy of beauty of place and time.

5. Observe the culture of the aesthetics of the architecture of Suez Governorate regarding the works to be carried out.

 

The competition includes the following areas: -

  • The design of the logo expresses the visual identity of the Suez governorate using the word "Suez" in an innovative art form and combines it with symbols that reflect the visual identity of the governorate using expressive colors.

Subject to the following:

- In a size of not less than 50 cm × 35 cm

- submitting a white and black version and another colored version

- The colors shall not exceed 3 colors expressing the visual identity of the governorate.

 

  • The field of design and photography (murals) on the monuments of the governorate, historical events, archaeological sites, heritage places, folk crafts, important historical figures, industrial areas, buildings of heritage and architectural value, and the general distinctive nature of the governorate using appropriate colors.

Subject to the following:

- In a size of not less than 60 cm × 80 cm

- Writing a presentation about the project, its implementation methods, required raw materials, tools, etc.)

- Identification of the proposed location and conceptualization of the implementation of the murals. This conceptualization should be designed graphically, printed in colors, and attached to the presentation.

 

  • Sculpture field: design and implementation of a model of field statues inspired by Suez's long and rich history, taking into account the application of aesthetic and practical requirements of visual identity.

Subject to the following:

- The height of the statue model is not less than 30cm of any sculptural material.

- Showing a presentation about the project and its implementation requirements of raw materials and tools.

- Submitting a graphic visualization of the place of implementation in one of the Suez squares.

 

  • In the field of photography: to carry out photography works to select the best art footage that documents, highlights, and shows the most important features of the governorate and expresses the most important features of the visual identity of the Suez governorate.

Subject to the following:

- The photo should reflect the buildings visually distinct.

- The photo must be modern (Internet photos are excluded).

- Mention the camera type and shot time.

- The work is creative and wasn’t participated in other competitions.

- Print the work in an area of not less than 50 cm × 35 cm with output.

 

  • The deadline for submitting the works of art is in mid-March 2023 to the Art Education Department of the SU Faculty of Education.
  • On the sidelines of the competition and in order to disseminate the culture of visual identity in the governorate of Suez and to determine the extent of the spread of this concept, university students are requested to complete the following questionnaire:
