Higher Education: 20 Egyptian Universities are among the top 2000 universities worldwide according to the CWUR Ranking for 2024

The website of the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR) announced the emergence of 20 Egyptian universities among the top 2,000 in its 2024 edition.

Moreover, Cairo University was ranked first locally according to the results of the ranking to come among the best (513) international universities, followed by Ain Shams University in second place in the top (769) globally, then Mansoura University in third place among the top (873) globally. At the same time, Alexandria University ranked 914 globally followed by universities (Assiut, Zagaziq, Tanta, Al-Azhar, Suez Canal, Beni Suef, Helwan, Fayoum, Menoufia, Kafr el-Sheikh, Benha, British University of Egypt, Minya University, American University of Cairo, Sohag University, Suez University).

In addition, Dr. Ayman Ashour, the Minster of Higher Education and Scientific Research, appreciated the Egyptian Universities' efforts in pursuing educational and research policies that conform to international classification standards, thus placing Egyptian universities in a prestigious position to compete with major international universities. He also stressed the Ministry's support for Egyptian universities in the international classification file.

For her part, Dr. Abeer Al-Shater, the Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs and Supervisor of the Knowledge Bank noted that the CWUR classification selects only 2000 of the world's 20 thousand universities and uses seven objective and powerful indicators compiled in four fields of ranking of the world's universities. Firstly, (Education): It is based on the academic success of university graduates (25%). Secondly, (Employability): This indicator is based on the professional success of university graduates (25%). Thirdly, (Teaching staff members) are measured by the number of staff members who have received the highest academic privileges (10%). The fourth and final indicator is (scientific research), which includes (research outputs: measured by the total number of theses (10%), high-quality publications: Measured by the number of theses appearing in high-profile journals (10%), impact: Measured by the number of theses appearing in highly influential journals (10%), citations: Measured by the number of theses cited significantly (10%).

Furthermore, Dr. Adel Abdul Ghaffar, the Media Adviser and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, explained: that Egyptian universities have achieved a breakthrough in various international classifications. He also stated that the strategy adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education. In this regard, it has significantly impacted this remarkable progress. The Ministry paid great attention to international publishing in major scientific journals, as well as providing technical support to educational institutions and research centers as well as material support to researchers.

It is worth mentioning that the World University Ranking Centre (CWUR) was inaugurated in 2012; As a research project, it provides policy advice, strategic insights, and advisory services to governments and universities to improve educational and research outcomes.
