The Minister of Higher Education heads the meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities at Suez University

The Minister of Higher Education pointed out:

  • The commitment of staff members to be present at universities from the first day of study on the first of October.
  • Readiness of bleachers, halls, laboratories, and university dormitories to welcome students.
  • Accelerate the announcement of student schedules before the start of the new academic year.
  • Development of operational plans for cultural, artistic, and sporting activities and organization of field visits to major national projects.
  • Increased university literacy efforts and collaboration with the "Haya Karima" initiative.

The Supreme Council of Universities held its periodic meeting, chaired by Prof. Dr. Ayman Ashour, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, on Saturday, at the headquarters of Suez University. This meeting was attended by Dr. Mohamed Latif, the Secretary of the Council, and a number of members of the Council.

The Council thanked the Suez University members, headed by Dr. Al-Sayed Al-Sharqawi, the SU president, for hosting the meeting of the Supreme Council of Universities.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research referred to his meeting with President Abdelfattah El-Sisi in the presence of Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister of Egypt to present the future strategy for higher education and scientific research in Egypt and mechanisms to operationalize the role of universities in supporting sustainable development issues in all sectors of the country; Appreciative of the President's support for the system of higher education and scientific research as well as the cooperation of all organs of the country, which had the best impact in upgrading the system of higher education and scientific research in Egypt in quantitative and qualitative terms, and reflected this positively on the international classification of Egyptian universities.

Furthermore, The Minister also referred to the launch of the National Intellectual Property Strategy under the auspices of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister of the Council of Ministers inspected the Intellectual Property Fair that accompanied the launch of the strategy. The minister pointed out that universities to develop operational mechanisms to implement the National Intellectual Property Strategy and how to operationalize it in the coming period and transform creative ideas into new products that meet society's needs and contribute to building Egypt’s economy.

In addition, the Minister commended the efforts of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology in preparing and organizing the visit of Mr. Darren Tang, the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) to Egypt and arranging a number of field visits to universities and research centers for the latest innovations and inventions of Egypt's scientific research system. As well as arranging a number of meetings with relevant ministers to support cooperation with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) over the coming period, culminating in the organization's Director meeting with the President of the Republic.

The Minister of Higher Education affirmed the readiness of all universities to begin the academic year 2023-2022 and to provide all logistical needs that ensure the successful conduct of the educational process, as well as the readiness of bleachers, halls, laboratories, and university dormitories. He also emphasized the observance of all safety and security standards in all university establishments, to ensure a safe educational environment for students.

The Minister of Higher Education pointed out the commitment of staff members to be present at universities from the first day of study to ensure that the educational process is conducted successfully and promptly. He also assured the announcement of study schedules before the start of the new academic year to ensure study attendance in all faculties.

Moreover, the Minister pointed out that universities continue to implement awareness programs for students about the coronavirus, encouraging them to get active doses for their safety.

The Minister also pointed out the readiness of all university hospitals to provide a distinguished medical service to students, staff, and employees in conjunction with the start of the new academic year 2022/2023.

The Minister directed the development of operational plans for cultural, artistic, and sporting activities, for their effective role in developing students' skills in all fields. Developing students' understanding of the contemporary challenges facing the nation, as well as organizing field visits to major national projects implemented by the country in various sectors. Attention is also paid to holding cultural seminars and workshops aimed at developing students' national awareness and combating non-equitable concepts and ideas and the inherent societal legacies of the Egyptian people as well as the cooperation of universities with the Ministry's gifted care center and tutorials, to organize sporting, cultural and artistic events and activities for students and supporting and nurturing talented students in the artistic, literary, scientific, technological and sporting fields; and the dissemination of specific programs to meet their needs, develop their capacities and promote their belonging to their homeland. He also pointed out the increase in the efforts of universities in literacy in cooperation with the General Authority for Adult Education that activating the role of universities in the service of society and the development of the environment.

Dr. Adel Abdul Ghaffar, the Media Adviser and Spokesperson of the Ministry of Higher Education, said that the Council heard a presentation by Aye Omar, the Chairman of the Council of Trustees of Hayat Karima Foundation. The presentation explained the outstanding role of universities in supporting the Haya Karima Initiative during the past period in the health, environmental, veterinary, and social fields. "Haya Karima", discussion and dialogue with university youth on the initiative's operational projects, and the recruitment of student graduation projects to serve the initiative. The Minister appreciated the distinguished role of universities in cooperation with the institution of Haya Karima. He also stressed the importance of increasing the participation of universities in supporting the "Haya Karima" initiative in the coming period.

The spokesperson added that the Council had heard a presentation by Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, the President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, on the Ministry's executive plan to enrich the Wikipedia platform with prestigious Egyptian symbols, which contributed to enriching academic life and is a role model.

The spokesperson noted that the Council approved the Charter of University Ethics of staff members and associated staff, which includes (ethical rules governing the work of the staff, ethical rules and foundations governing the work of the associated staff, scientific research, and intellectual property, the obligations of staff members and their collaborators in the e-learning system, the ethics of using social media sites).

The spokesperson added that the Council agreed to provide a transitional period of 6 months from the start of the work of the scientific committees with the new configuration, from September 2022 until the end of February 2023, during which the rules of the 13th session would be applied with the possibility of applying the rules of the 14th session in case the applicant wishes to upgrade the new rules.

The Council approved a draft agreement between Cairo University and the Francophone University Agency to host the University's national office in Egypt and the Francophone Employability Centre in Cairo.

The Council reviewed a report on field visits to faculties and institutes initiated during the last 10 years, affiliates with the committees’ sectors (Medicine - Science - Computer Science and Informatics - Social Service).
