Launch of the Forum of Activities and Events of Egyptian Public Universities to Address Climate Change

Under the auspices of Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the forum of activities and events of Egyptian governmental universities to counter climate change, was launched on 22-23 September and hosted by Suez University headed by Prof. Dr. Al-Sharqawi. It was under the supervision of the Supreme Council of Universities under the secretariat of Dr. Mohammed Latif, in the presence of. Yasser Rafat, Deputy Minister for Scientific Research Affairs, Dr. Mahmoud Saqr, President of the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Ambassador Hisham Badr, General Coordinator of the National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, and Chairman of the Organizational Committee of the Ministry of Planning, Presidents of Universities, and a group of academic leaders and representatives of several stakeholders of the climate change file.

The Forum aims to highlight the importance of complementarity among Egyptian public universities in preserving the environment and sustainable development and to create regional integration mechanisms to counter the negative impacts of climate change.

The Forum also aims to support research and development in applied projects relevant to climate change axes and to develop scientific research in new and renewable energy management, energy efficiency, and consumption methods, as well as integration with various entities to reduce climate change, and to enhance Egypt's role in the profile of climate change worldwide.

The Forum highlights the activities of governmental universities in the field of climate change. It presents a range of advanced research topics undertaken by scientists at governmental universities in this important area, as well as presenting research models and applied projects related to the axes of climate change.

It is worth mentioning that the establishment of the Forum comes under the global orientation of attention to the climate changes and challenges facing the world and in the light of Egypt's Vision 2030, which includes attention to all axes of sustainable development, notably addressing the climate impacts of climate change.

On the back of the forum is an exhibition containing applied project models from Egyptian government universities associated with climate change hubs and applied research pistons from governmental universities related to climate change hubs.
