Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research launches the Innovation Competition for Youth Egyptian Universities entitled:
Hackathon for Climate Change: Innovate for Sustainability
This competition aims to provide real opportunities for young generations of university students to play an active role in the face of the climate crisis, as part of Egypt's hosting of Conference of the parties (COP 27) on climate change from 7 to 12 November.
Prof. Dr. Al-Sayed Al-Sharqawi, the SU president, said that the competition aims at achieving a number of objectives, including:
- Increasing the awareness of future generations about climate change and its impact on various issues in our lives.
- Stimulate innovative ideas to address climate change issues facing the local and global environment.
- Investment in students' technical capabilities to develop innovative ideas of interest to the Egyptian state.
- Coordinating and integrating efforts from both the public and private sectors to address the pressing challenges caused by climate change.
- Participate in identifying and studying the real and pressing challenges caused by climate change in Egypt.
Regarding the competition's main data:
The competition targets undergraduate students (bachelor's degree) from all Egyptian universities (governmental, civil, private) enrolled at the time of the launch of the competition and does not include postgraduate or graduate students.
- The competition takes place according to the following schedule
The competition takes place in two stages: the first within each university independently and aims to select one multidisciplinary team to participate in the second stage of the competition (final liquidation) of the competition. Each university will present only one project before a jury to select the winning teams.
The prizes were defined as follows:
The first prize: 100000 LE.
The second prize: 80000 LE.
The third prize: 60000 LE.
The fourth prize:40000 LE.
The fifth prize: 30000 LE.
The sixth prize: 25000 LE.
Official points of contact are identified from each university that is responsible for the university's project submission in the competition.
On this occasion, the President of the University invites all students of the University to participate in the events of this competition. He also addressed to provide all kinds of support and care to students in terms of providing all scientific and technical expertise in the University in various disciplines as well as practical and technical support in writing the proposals submitted.
