Under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Osama Khalil Qaddour, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Dr. Mohamed Mohamed Saeed, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, and as a continuation of the series of scientific discussion panels moderated by Dr. Reham Hamdy Hegazy, Coordinator of Scientific Discussion Panels at the Faculty.
On Tuesday, 26 November 2024, Dr Ahmed Mohamed Ragab, lecturer in the Department of Engineering Sciences, held a discussion session entitled:
Renewable Energy Applications in Fish Farming.
Dr. Ahmed Ragab explained that in light of the political leadership's vision to expand the transition to renewable energies as an alternative to traditional energies and implement the Sustainable Development Plan Egypt Vision 2030 "Economic Dimension: Axis II: Energy, Environmental Dimension: Axis IX: Environment," as well as the National Strategy for Climate Change in Egypt 2050 "Main Objective 1: Achieving sustainable economic growth and low-emission development in various sectors" Sub-objective (1.1): Energy transition by increasing the share of all renewable energy sources with alternatives in hybrid energy" and thus the importance of expanding the application of renewable energies as a clean source of energy in fish farming and aquaculture, then addressing renewable energy sources from solar energy, wind energy, tidal energy, biomass energy, and geothermal energy. He then focused on the most popular applications of solar energy in fish farming, such as powering workers' accommodation, water pumps, feeders, solar heaters, ventilation devices, etc. He also discussed wind energy applications, particularly in various ventilation methods, and concluded his talk by emphasizing the need to encourage the use of renewable energy in homes, even if only to reduce pressure on the national electricity grid, promote green transition, and reduce emissions. Finally, a scientific discussion took place between the attendees, the Dean of the Faculty, some teaching staff members, and members of the associated staff on how to transition to renewable energy.
