Self- FinancingWind energy is essential in transitioning to a sustainable energy future, offering advantages like zero emissions and abundant availability. Wind turbines convert the kinetic energy of wind into electricity, helping to
reduce greenhouse gases and combat climate change. Wind emulators have become a key tool for studying Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECS) in a controlled environment, allowing researchers to analyze turbine behavior without relying on natural wind or physical turbines. These emulators simulate different wind speeds and conditions for testing.
This project focuses on designing the first phase of a wind emulator, using a Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG), a type of semi-variable-speed WECS. The DFIG allows variable speed operation by adjusting rotor winding power input, making it suitable for handling changing wind speeds. A DFIG was eventually found in the Egyptian market, though in poor condition, requiring repairs like fixing a broken fan, bad bearings, and a bent rotor.
The second phase involves creating a multilayer protection system with fuses, circuit breakers, and overload devices on both sides of the generator. The measurement system is designed using the Arduino platform to ensure accurate data collection and protection of the system during operation.
