About Faculty

The Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering was established in 1961 under the name of Higher Industrial Institute of Petroleum and Mining in Suez, the Zaytiat region is part of the group of specialized industrial institutes that were established in that period. The study plan was for five years that qualified student to get an engineering bachelor’s degree in the following fields:

* The petroleum branch has two departments (drilling and production - petroleum refining).

* The mining branch has two departments (mines-metals).

In 1965, the institution bylaw was modified to be five years system to get the engineering bachelor’s degree.

In 1966, the UNESCO supervised the institution and provided it with the latest equipment, tools, workshop machines, and foreign professors for teaching as well as processing the laboratories and sending scientific missions abroad. UNESCO supervision continued till 1975, the year in which Helwan University was established and the institution was incorporated under the name of the faculty of Petroleum and Mining.

In 1976, Suez Canal University was established, and the faculty of Petroleum and Mining was incorporated under the name of the faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering. A new bylaw was set and applied in the academic year 1976\1977. The department of geoengineering was established in the 80s. As development continues, the faculty now has five departments:

-Petroleum Engineering Department.

-Petroleum refining and Petrochemical Engineering       Department.

-Metals and Materials Engineering department.

-Mining Engineering department.

-Geological and Geophysical Engineering department.

in addition to:        

-Science and Mathematics department (to educate the Basic Science).

In 2006, a new curriculum program with a credit hours system was established under the name of Engineering of petroleum exploration and production.
