Field Trip to Explore the Antiquities Zone of Ain Al-Sokhna

The Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering at Suez University visited the Antiquities Zone of Ain Al-Sokhna. The visit was attended by Prof. Dr. Abeer Mohamoud Shouib, the dean of the faculty, Prof. Dr. Adel Mohamed Amar, the Faculty Undersecretary for Community Service and Environment Development, Dr. Ayman Hamed, the Geological Engineering department, Dr. Ninin Ali, the Basic Sciences and Engineering Mathematics Department, and a number of post-graduate students. It also was attended by Mahmoud Rajab, the Director-General of the Antiquities Zone of Suez. As well, Rajab explained that the site has nine caves located below a rocky slope with inscriptions showing that the site was used by the ancient Egyptian as mines to extract, recycle, and equip the malachite in the form of alloys as well as 55 metal smelting furnaces found. Dr. Abeer Mohamoud Shouib, the dean of the faculty, said that this is under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Al Sharqawi, SU president, and in the framework of the faculty's concern to cooperate with experts and specialists in all fields of the faculty, noting that the area of Al-Ain Al-Sokhna is located about 60 km south of Suez governorate.
