Under the patronage of His Excellency Professor Dr. Ashraf Hanigel, President of Suez University, and under the supervision of Professor Dr. Nermeen Mohamed Abdel Halim, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Therapy, with the supervision of the college's student activities coordinator Dr. Walaa Sawar and organized by Ahmed Al-Imam under the Youth Welfare and Cultural Committee at the Student Union of the faculty.
The student activities organized an educational seminar titled (Bullying... Another Face).
The seminar began with the playing of the national anthem of the Arab Republic of Egypt, followed by Dr. Mohamed Nasser presenting a comprehensive overview of this societal phenomenon, explaining its definition and the various types of bullying, including physical, psychological, social, verbal, bodily, and also cyberbullying. He also discussed how social media has negatively contributed to the rise of cyberbullying, which has become a dangerous indicator across all societies.
Additionally, the negative effects of bullying on an individual were clarified, such as loss of concentration, weakened self-confidence to the point of sometimes losing it entirely, and aggression, which could even lead a person into a state of isolation and depression.
Solutions to the problem included understanding the personality of the bully and attempting to discover their motives, as it may be that the person was never originally inclined to this behavior, but circumstances led them to it. Students were encouraged to be proactive and positively influential in their surroundings and to adhere to the teachings of all divine religions regarding this matter. They were also urged to uphold the values, traditions, and morals of Egyptian society and to be good role models.
The seminar witnessed wonderful interaction from the students, with some of them performing a role-play about the problem.
A closing statement was made as follows:
(Bullies are weak individuals who want to shake the confidence of someone they see as strong in a situation that is difficult for them.
So be strong and hold on to your good morals; weakness is easy, but true strength lies in a person’s character.)
Student activities at the college, in cooperation with some students enrolled in the Community Physical Therapy course, also organized an awareness campaign for students at all levels about this issue. We ensured the distribution of informational brochures about this dangerous social phenomenon, the ways to prevent it, and how to deal with it, in order to safeguard students’ mental health. Additionally, a banner poster was displayed inside the college corridors to raise awareness about the issue.
Several fourth-year students enrolled in the Community Physical Therapy course participated in this activity.
This sophisticated activity took place during the day in line with the vision of the university and the college, which encourages discussing such phenomena, examining their various causes, helping students address the psychological consequences that may result from encountering such problems, and encouraging students to exhibit good character with their peers. We pray to God To protect all the students of the college and for them to be a refined example in human interactions, contributing to creating a positive environment inside and outside the college for all its members.
